Control systems for indoor lighting and computer simulation: analysis and comparison between software packages capabilities and results on a real cas…

2018

In the last years, computer capabilities have evolved rapidly and also the way to simulate building physics phenomena is changed and more developed. Each simulation software is developed with a less or more similar aim, using different algorithms and models and being used by people with different profile: specialist, architects, engineers, installers, etc. This paper deals with the analysis of capability of some of the most utilised software used to predict indoor lighting, including natural daylight contribution and assessment of energy consumption and savings related to specific design options. Furthermore, two of the analysed software have been tested simulating a case studying. Results …

Cultural content of lighting for the discovery of archaeological heritage

2013

Archaeological sites, built landscapes of the past, represent the identity heritage for future generations. The aim of this article is to investigate and demonstrate the importance of the cultural identity reinforcement, which can be achieved by enhancing the historical heritage through the use of artificial lighting. The charm of an archaeological site or a monument comes from the perception of its whole environmental context, both for the functional lighting and the enhancement of the artistic and monumental. Light can turn into concrete matter both in interiors, in archaeological and urban spaces: combining innovative technologies, artificial light can be used to change the world, to sha…

Assessment of indoor illuminance and study on best photosensors' position for design and commissioning of Daylight Linked Control Systems. A new meth…

2018

Abstract Artificial lighting systems have to ensure appropriate illuminance with high energy efficiency according to best design practice and technical standards. These aims can be tackled, by incorporating a Daylight linked control system. However, the system behaviour is strongly influenced by several factors and, in particular, by the sensors' position. Indeed, very often the illuminance on work-plane is not fully correlated with illuminance measured by the photo-sensor used to control the luminaires. This fact leads to wrong information for the Daylight linked control systems affecting its efficacy. The artificial intelligence of Neural Networks can be exploited to provide a method for …
